Nov 2018: We started looking for a general contractor in Austin, Texas to rebuild a wooden deck in our backyard, and replace 4 beams covering our patio. Our search mainly comprised of contacting people on Facebook and Yelp. Patrick Abraham Diaz responded to our queries and sent us an email with a reference who he introduced as Marie Carrillo.
I called the reference who talked to me for 30 minutes telling me about the great job Patrick Diaz did for her house and that she'd vouch for him anytime. After 2 days I signed a contract with Patrick Abraham Diaz. I now have reason to believe that the reference I was provided was his relative, quite possibly his wife. He also used to bring his brother-in-law along as his assistant.
I am documenting the events as they unfolded below. While you read this see if you can point any red flags, and please be aware of those when you hire a contractor.
We have now hired an attorney and are pursuing both criminal and civil legal action against him.
The info I uncovered on Patrick Abraham Diaz has been summarized in Crime Record.
There are many more details that we can’t post about on the internet on the advice of our attorney because they are part of our pending lawsuit.
